As legions of horror fans had hoped, Tobin Bell has signed on to reprise his role as Jigsaw Killer John Kramer in the 10th film in the classic Saw franchise, according to a report on Deadline.
The Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures project–slated to start production very soon–will be directed by Kevin Greuter, who helmed Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter, from a screenplay by Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger. The as-yet-untitled film is scheduled for theatrical release next Halloween–Oct. 27, 2023.
Producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules said it’s “a thrill to be reuniting with Tobin. His performance as John Kramer is part of the magic that made this franchise a phenomenon, and his character is an active part of this film.”
The original 2004 Saw–directed by James Wan from a screenplay by Leigh Whannell–stars Bell, Cary Elwes, Danny Glover and Monica Potter. The film revolves around the mystery of the Jigsaw Killer, who tests his victims’ wills to live by putting them through deadly “games” where they must inflict great physical pain upon themselves to survive.
The film–which received generally mixed reviews from critics–was a hit with horror fans and raked in more than $100 million worldwide on a budget of just $1 million.
